Barry DransfieldHe and his brother, Robin, are folk singers and songwriters. There is a reference to Barry’s role in the film in the booklet that accompanies the compilation CD "Up to Now" which I quote: "There was, however, an unexpected flurry of excitement in 1984 when Barry found himself in Tahiti drinking with the likes of Anthony Hopkins, Daniel Day Lewis and Mel Gibson playing the part of a blind Irish fiddle player Blind Byrne in the movie ‘The Bounty’. Various hot-shot classical violinists were among those auditioned for the role and Barry was so self-conscious about removing his beat-up Chinese violin from its case in front of them he burst into the room singing and playing to divert their attention from the instrument. Such was the impact he made he was offered the job within 30 seconds. His musical contributions to the film were effectively produced by Mel Gibson and given a filming work-load that wasn’t exactly strenuous, he regards those months in the South Sea islands as just reward for all the grief encountered on cold nights trekking round English folk clubs".

Chips RaffertyPopular actor in 20 films in Australia from 1941-1971, he was born John William Goffage in 1909 at Broken Hill, Australia, and died in 1971 in Sydney. The film career of this tall actor began in the late '30s and he seemed to attract roles depicting him as the symbolic rugged, easy going Aussie male with its mateship overtones, especially in films like Bush Christmas and Rats Of Tobruk.
