On the Brink of the Edge Page
The Center for Al Amarjan Culture

Erected on top of ancient ruins, Freedom City stands as a gleaming monument to Her Exaltedness' foreknowledge of the years to come. Our Shepherdess had Freedom City built on the opposite side of Al Amarja in a time of great financial boom for the island in the mid-1950s so that future citizens of the island would have a place to live should the Edge ever fall to some natural disaster. Built in the lee of our island's dormant volcano, it is a calm and pristine place.
Today, it is a historic landmark and tourist attraction as visitors flock to see the gleaming buildings and glass through the telescopes near the top of the volcano. For now, Freedom City is off-limits to all but those who maintain the buildings until such time that it is needed in the event of a catastrophe.
Strong-eyed visitors to the telescopes will notice the entrances to the tunnels that may one day be needed to move people from one end of the island to another. You may also note the blue-uniformed janitors merrily moving from one end of the city to another; working to create a haven for those who may one day must be displaced from the other end of the island.
Viewers from the volcano will also notice the sprawling mansion and grounds of Her Exaltedness in the nearby vicinity; President D'Aubainne occasionally walks the streets of Freedom City, mingling with the janitors, thanking them for their fine work. It is the lucky tourist who is able to spot our leader herself, as she tends to be reclusive and ever-watchful of the seedier elements of our fine island nation.
