TOTENTANZ
GenCon 1997 World Championship Deck
by Eric Jome ejome@execpc.com

Following is the deck I used to help win the World Championships last year. This thing never lost a game. This is certainly not for friendly play... it will hit the ground running and goes off like an atom bomb! So, without further delay, Totentanz...

2CH Monique D'Aubainne (A41)8 Pullers
2CH Bast (A22)
2CH Jersey Smith (A134)
2CH Anastasia Crowley (A40)
2CH Betty Frenum (D36)4 Attackers
2CH Mammon (A88)
2CH Abanobi Famani (88)4 Defenders
2CH Donna Khalifah (A77)
2CH Carinogenia (A33)4 Specials
2CH Ricardo Martinez (149)
2CO Kamikaze (A75)12 Extras
2CO Terrors (243)
3CO Negative Energy (166)
2CO Flooding Nile (A56)
2CO Atavism: Ninja (29)
1SE The Truth About Necromancy (A9)
8RE Astral Wisdom (28)8 Resources

Kamikaze Betty. Flood your own pullers. Ricardo Martinez. Negative Energy Ninja. Kamikaze your own puller... Kamikaze Ninja. Big pull with bonus pull. Everything Astral.

Notice, no Gear and no Whammies. This was intentionally done to waste some of the classic defense cards the enemy might employ; Gang A-Gley or Reek Rend, frex.

COMMENTS

Well, other than the fact that Atavism: Ninja in combination with Kamikaze doesn't work ... To wit: Atavism: Ninja specifies "Target Human" and Kamikaze specifies that "Character's first trait is replaced with 'Nekros.' ... " Thus, when under the effect of Kamikaze, the character is Nekros, not Human, and therefore not Ninja. I used to use this one myself until I realized it doesn't work. Also, Evan MacDonald will just >*ruin*< your whole day. (Peter Jansen)

Well, that would certainly be true... if you put the Kamikaze on after the Ninja, though, it works just fine. Remember, once a card is on, its on. If you have a human in play and play Atavism:Ninja, the condition holds. Subsequently, play Kamikaze and the person is no longer human, but the ninja still applies. This is in "Surviving On The Edge" and runs in the long held tradition of never having to remember anything but your Influence total. And you come sporting Evan MacDonald in your average tournament deck? Anyway, in the final, I faced my friends anti-astral deck, including glugs, the Arcana astral pull stealer, and even Evan. I still won, although it was close. Betty Frenum is not astral. (Eric Jome)
