The Pride Compound, an architectural necessity envisioned and created by the famous Felinian architect and cleric, Kloster Skytwinkle, enabled the builders to quickly construct housing which has as its primary goal to conserve heat and fuel. This style of housing also embodies the spirit of cooperation that characterized the founders of the Twin Towns, and remains the favored style of housing in both communities today.
Each compound has living quarters for 6 families, with a common cooking area in the center, and a storage area that can be filled from outside the compound. Walls and flooring are of mortared stone, with all exterior walls earth-sheltered for insulation and drainage, with the floor and roof made of wood and/or thatch. The flooring is recessed 2 feet lower than the surrounding land, and sits on a mortared rock base, again for drainage. A unique system of heat ducting allows transfer of heat from the central cooking area to the various apartments.
