Who are we?

We are the builders of the, much acclaimed, STEPHENS & KENAU range of museum quality Historic Sailing Ship Models. Authenticity and Craftsmanship is the name of the game. We go to every length to ensure that our models rate amongst the finest in the world.

We are situated on the south coast of the Cape of Good Hope in Mossel Bay, South Africa.

Inspired by the intriguing history of the HMS Bounty, we have developed a very high quality scale model of the ship. Every aspect of the ship has been well researched and carefully reproduced in our model. The model is built from walnut with cast brass fittings. The model comes in two sizes, namely a 1:48 as well as a 1:98 scale.

The research and development of such a model takes about four months and it takes 445 man-hours to build one.

You have seen the attachment and have seen it for yourself. Since computer graphics cannot possibly do justice to the detail and beauty of the model, as it is in real life, please contact us and we will gladly forward a postcard size photograph to you.

Our fully rigged model is packed and transported in a specially designed crate. It is only for you to unpack the model and to put it on display.

Our special kit consists of a complete ship as mentioned above with the only difference being that it is to be rigged by yourself. The hull, masts, yards, shrouds and sails are completely built by our craftsmen. The rigging plan and instructions which comes with the kit are very straight forward and easy to follow. The rigging can be done by anyone without any particular skill or tools. Rigging your model yourself has got the advantage that you will become acquainted with the ship and all the aspects of its rigging and the way it used to function.

The self-build kit is from the, world famous, Artesania Latina range. This model kit is of outstanding quality. All parts are pre-cut by laser which ensures a very accurate and beautiful model as well as easy to build. All materials, fittings, plans and tools are provided with the kit. Though this is a fairly long-term project (approximately a year, taking it easy), it is a very relaxing and rewarding hobby.

This model comes only fully rigged. Though it is half the size of the 1:48 model, it is absolutely exquisite. It is also built of walnut with hand carved fitting. It is, no doubt, a piece to be very proud of.

All our models are insured and transported by DHL Couriers. Your model will be delivered to your door, within five working days from dispatch. All models in transit is covered under our insurance until it is delivered. Thus far, thanks to the very reliable and professional services of DHL Couriers, we have not had any damage to any of our models in transit.
