Pitcairn Island Goodbye Song

Now one last song we'll sing - Goodbye, Goodbye;
Time moves on rapid wings - Goodbye;
And this short year will soon be past,
Will soon be numbered with the last,
But as we part to all we'll say-
Goodbye, Goodbye, Goodbye.
But as we part to all we'll say-
Goodbye, Goodbye, Goodbye.

We gather now to say goodbye, goodbye;
We can no longer stay - Goodbye;
Thanks for your love and constant care,
And kindness that we kindly share,
We part but hope to meet again.
Goodbye, Goodbye, Goodbye.
We part but hope to meet again.
Goodbye, Goodbye, Goodbye.

Words and music composed by Pitcairn Island poet and musician, Rosalind A. Young-Nield.

Here are the words to the "Goodbye Song" which is sung from the longboats to departing islanders. Fiona and I attended a farewell dinner with the entire population in the Island Hall and Tom Christian led the singing of this song for Steve and Raelene ( his daughter ) and for us. I can assure you it was a moving experience which we will never forget. (Scott Campbell)

Having had this sung to me over the sound of waves lapping the longboat, is something one just never forgets. (Eric Huffey)
